Lip Plastic Surgery

By

Lip plastic surgery is one of the most common procedures undergone these days. Lip plastic surgery can either be for aesthetic or reconstructive purposes. Aesthetic lip plastic surgery involves the enhancement of the lips, usually to make it appear pouty through having an augmentation. It is one of the most common procedures taken by showbiz personalities to enhance their looks. Reconstructive lip surgery is performed with patients who have congenital defects such as cleft palate.

Generally, lip plastic surgery can be done either through injection or an implant procedure. For both procedures, topical anaesthesia is given. With the injection procedure, the duration of procedure can last up to two hours and it is totally safe for the patient to go home on the same day that the procedure is done. Fat grafting is a procedure of inserting fat sourced from your own body into the lips to achieve that fuller effect. Local flap grafts involves implanting some tissue and skin taken from the inside flap of your mouth unto the lips. Whether injected or implanted, the two procedures use exactly the same materials. There are several options available from which the injected or implanted substance may be sourced out. Sources may be natural or synthetic.

Synthetic substances include artecoll, goreetex, softform and restylane. Natural substances include the collagen sourced from your own body, from cows or from a dead human, fat from your own thighs or abdomen, and a special connective tissue that is used for fascia injections and which can be sourced out from your own body or dead human donor. Allergic reaction is higher with the use of synthetic substances. However, the synthetic materials give a longer lasting results and even permanent as compared with the natural ones. The natural substances may induce minimal to zero allergic reaction but they usually lasts within weeks or typically up to twelve months. An exception to this is the collagen sourced out from cows because it gives a relatively higher possibility of allergic reaction as it comes from a non-human source. As these natural substances get to be absorbed by the body, they give a temporary fix. They can be great for people who are not prepared having a permanent fix or who wish to try it out temporarily.

You have to be in a good health condition to qualify for a lip plastic surgery. People who have diabetic conditions, suffering from lupus, cold sores, blood clotting problems and high possibility of scar formation in the lip as these could easily result to complications. If you are a smoker, it is strongly advised to avoid smoking for a certain period of time prior and after having the procedure. It is also advisable to skip taking aspirins and painkillers prior to having the procedure. Moreover, it is highly recommend that you prepare ice, soft pillows, soft foods and to have the doctor-prescribed medication at home which would definitely help you keep comfortable after the procedure. It is also advised to have rest and less physical movements to avoid possible incidents that could cause undesirable effects to the surgery. It is highly advised to communicate with the doctor and to follow the doctor’s advice. This would ensure the maximization of results and benefits of the procedure. More importantly, make sure with yourself that you are prepared to have it. The risk of having plastic surgery lies on the allergic reactions that it could bring if incompatibility of the substance injected or implanted happens towards your body. Careful planning and consultation with the doctor is the best means to prevent this.
